What you'll learn

Explain basic cannabis pharmacology, legal/regulatory context in Canada, and population risks (youth, pregnancy, mental health, Indigenous communities).
Use validated screening and brief assessment tools (CUDIT-R, ASSIST, CRAFFT) and apply motivational interviewing and culturally safe interviewing techniques.
Deliver brief interventions, harm-reduction plans, and appropriate referral pathways including when to consider pharmacotherapy and specialist addiction/mental health services.

  • No formal prerequisites; clinical background (counsellor, nurse, social worker, allied health) recommended.
  • Access to local/provincial referral resources and workplace supervision for clinical practice (recommended).
