What you'll learn

Recognize epidemiology, social determinants, and key drivers of suicide in Canada, including Indigenous-specific factors and the role of colonial harms
Conduct brief suicide risk screening and structured assessment using Canadian-relevant tools (C-SSRS) and develop a collaborative safety plan (Stanley-Brown model)
Apply core crisis intervention communication and de-escalation skills, document appropriately, navigate Canadian system resources and legal/ethical considerations, and employ self-care strategies

Requirements

  • Professional background in health or social services (counsellor, social worker, nurse, allied health) or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with basic client-centred communication skills
